Masal Pori -மசாலா பொரி

The common man's snack can be made into a mouth watering crispy delight that is a good substitute and many times healthier than the its Western cousin, the pop corns.
  1. Rice puffs (Arisi Pori) - 1 medium packet or 6 cups
  2. Raw Peanuts - a handful
  3. Roasted chana dal - a handful
  4. Mustard seeds - a spoon
  5. Garlic -2 cloves cut into pieces
  6. Curry leaves a few
  7. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Chilli powder - 1 teaspoon ( or to taste)
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Cooking oil - 1 table spoon

  • In a deep frying pan pour the oil and add the mustard seeds, peanuts and the roasted chana dal.
  • As the mustard starts to splutter, add the garlic pieces,turmeric powder,chilli powder and salt. Add the curry leaves
  • Slowly add the puffed rice and keep turning gently till all the rice puffs are coated with the spices.
  • Remove from heat and serve
