Uppuma Kozhukkattai - Pidi Kozukkatai -

உப்புமா கொழுக்கட்டை - பிடி கொழுக்கட்டை


Ingredients: ( for 20 kozukkattais)
  1. Raw rice 1 cup
  2. Water 2 and 1/2 cups
  3. Urad Dal ( ulundu) 2 teaspoons
  4. Channa dal ( kadalai paruppu) 1 teaspoon
  5. Jeera 2 teaspoons
  6. Red chillies 4 or 5
  7. Grated coconut  1/4 cup
  8. Oil 2 table spoons
Preparation:
  1. Grind the rice to a coarse consistency ( like rava)
  2. Powder the jeera, urad dal and chillies
  3. In a kadai heat the oil and put in the mustard and the channa dal.
  4. After the mustards splutters saute for a minute and add the water.
  5. When it starts to boil, add the powdered rice. 
  6. Stir till the water evaporates and rice turns to loose dough.
  7. Take out the dough and roll into oval balls.
  8. Steam it in an idly cooker. ( make sure that the water in the cooker does not get into the rice balls)
Serve hot with Coconut chutney / onion chutney / tomato chutney / coriander chutney.
